Recently, the architectural firm Isern Associats has completed the refurbishment of the new Hotel Aurea Palacio de Correosa old post office from 1932 which had been closed for more than 13 years.
Belonging to the hotel chain Eurostars Hotel Company, on new Aurea Palacio de Correos is a 5-star boutique hotel located in the historic centre of Logroño, La Rioja. The new establishment now has 41 rooms, a restaurant, a spa and a beautiful roof terrace overlooking the city.
An interior demolition
"An ambitious programme on a narrow plot of land about 14 metres wide and the pre-existing fittings of the structure did not make for an easy start," explained the Isern Associats. The structure of the building had been subjected to numerous failed interventions, leaving it in a very precarious state, which required a complete demolition of the interior, but maintaining the original facades.
The demolition allowed digging a new basement and, by relocating the position of the upper floorsThe project has been designed to gain an additional floor to accommodate a number of rooms. First and foremost, the project has pursued respecting the identity of the building and, at the same time, to articulate their culture, tradition and environment, which had been silenced for a long time.
"This hotel project had to reflect the origins of the building, to respect its past, and therefore required a very emotional approach, a lot of detail and a very special involvement on our part", explains the architect Daniel Isern.
