Google recently announced significant changes to its security policy that will affect the configuration of email accounts in third-party applications. As of 30 September 2024, Google will no longer allow third-party applications to access its servers using only a username and password.

What changes will Google implement?

Google has decided to disable access via less secure applications (LSAs) that use only username and password due to the associated security risks. This method has been deemed obsolete and vulnerable to unauthorised access. Instead of LSA, Google is pushing for the use of OAuth, a more secure and widely adopted authorisation protocol in the industry.

Key date for transition

  1. From 30 September 2024:
    • LSA access will be completely disabled for all Google Workspace accounts.
    • Access methods such as CalDAV, CardDAV, IMAP, POP and Google Sync will no longer work with password-only authentication.

How does this change affect you?

If you have a Google email account configured in Agora, you should know that it will stop working correctly until it is definitively blocked in September 2024.

What should you do?

From FOS SYSTEMS we recommend you to migrate your email account to other servers that do allow the use of third party applications.

Outlook or Hotmail email accounts work correctly with the Agora application.
